Tread Materials & Performance

Tread materials include polyurethane (low noise, non-marking, and good performance on smooth floors) and rubber (higher friction, more suitable for oily or uneven surfaces). On dry concrete, polyurethane has a coefficient of friction of approximately 0.6–0.7, while rubber achieves 0.8–0.9. Rubber is better for starting and stopping heavy loads but wears faster than polyurethane under continuous use. Diameters range from 80 mm to 400 mm. Tread hardness from Shore A 75 to 95 depending on load and application.

Customisation & Outdoor Use

Many models include an integrated encoder magnet for speed feedback and closed-loop control. Drive wheels themselves do not include brakes; the braking function is typically provided within the motor or gearbox. However, we can supply a separate parking brake wheel assembly. Rubber drive wheels can be used outdoors, but UV exposure will degrade standard polyurethane over time. For outdoor AGVs and transport vehicles, specify UV-stabilised polyurethane or pneumatic rubber wheels. We can also bond custom treads onto your existing metal hubs to refurbish worn wheels at a lower cost than replacement.
